Multisounds: Digital recordings (samples, PCM's) usually made from the actual instruments they emulate. When you press a key on an M/T Series synth a digital recording is "played back" or sounded. The "Multi" refers to the fact that several samples taken from different octaves are grouped together and used to recreate the sampled instrument. For example the Piano Multisound is made up of several samples taken from an actual Piano. PCM: Pulse Code Modulation. When referring to the M/T Series synths it's used as another term for Multisound. Sample: Digital recording. Used as another term for Multisound. Patch: Generic term for Program or Combination. Program: Multisound routed thru pitch envelopes, filters, amplifiers, modulators and effects. All this processing profoundly changes the way the Multisound is eventually heard from the outputs. Combination: In most cases a group of Programs. Programs can be "combined" in several ways... to all play at once... to only play on a certain part of the keyboard... to only respond to a certain Midi channel... etc. Sequence: A song stored as midi data either internally in the synth or externally on a computer or sequencer. System Exclusive or Sysex: See Sysex Guide for detailed description. |
