Sound Editing 101
Patch "Tweaking" From The Front Panel This "how to" is for anyone who's ever wanted to modify an existing patch to their liking but doesn't know the first thing about sound editing. I'll be using the M1 as an example but T-Series owners should have no trouble following along. How many times have you wished you could modify a patch... make it fade in or fade out differently, or change the balance between the Multisounds. You can do all of this and a lot more all from the Front Panel in Program mode without ever having to sludge thru the Edit section. OK, that's not entirely true. You will have to switch to Edit mode when you want to save your modifications but I promise it will be painlesss. OK, let's load in the factory patches. Select Program number 40... Magician. By pressing the A Button on the Front Panel we can change the Oscillator Balance of this program by using the Up/Down Buttons or the Value Slider. Positive values will make Oscillator 1 louder while negative values will make Oscillator 2 louder. This doesn't always work for every patch since not all patches use 2 oscillators. M3R's are restricted to single oscillator patches so Oscillator Balance doesn't apply to the M3R. Now let's push the F Button... ATTACK TIME. Changing the value of this parameter will change the time it takes for the patch to "sound" after the key is depressed. Positive values make the patch "fade in" longer while Negative values make the patch "sound" quicker... giving it more "punch". Now let's push the G Button... RELEASE TIME. Changing the value of this parameter will change the time it takes for the patch to stop "sounding" after you release the key. Positive values will increase the time it takes for the patch to "fade out" while Negative values will make the patch "cut out" or stop "sounding" quicker. OK, once we've modified the patch to our liking we need to save it or risk losing our work if we change programs or shut off the synth. Press EDIT PROG and then press the number 9 key. In the lower right corner of the display you can choose the Program location (number) where you're going to store the edited Program. Before you save (Write) the Edited Program you can compare it to the original by pressing the Compare button. Just to warn you, if you press the Compare button the display might change to the first page of Edit mode. Just press the 9 button again to get back to where you started. When saving your edited patch you may wish to call it something else. A common practice is to add an * after the patch name to indicate it's an edit. |
